I’m Kent Johnson, the co-founder & Chief Strategy Officer of Black & Abroad, the award-winning company dedicated to international luxury and adventure experiences for Black travelers. Since 2015, I have committed myself to empowering others in my community to travel the world through shedding light on the journeys of expats and travelers of color, using Black & Abroad as the medium for influence. Through Black & Abroad, I also partner with brands to create authentic and organic campaigns for the millennial consumer.
Due to my background in branding and culture strategy I’ve been invited to speak in spaces across the country, such as the United Nations & MasterCard on topics such as social media branding & digital marketing, diversity & inclusion, the travel habits of millennials, the spending styles of African-American consumers, entrepreneurship, the state of blackness in America & abroad, and technology in travel.
I’ve had my writing published in The Huffington Post & Cassius Magazine, been featured in Black Enterprise, Ebony, MIC, Rolling Out Magazine, VICE & Creative Loafing, named one of the 100 most influential African-Americans of 2017 by The Root and recognized with a Creative Data Grand Prix for my work behind Black & Abroad’s “Go Back to Africa” campaign at the 2019 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
I graduated from Morgan State University with a B.A. in English and earned my Juris Doctorate from the Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta, where I currently reside and also run a boutique firm dedicated to assisting small businesses & freelancers with legal matters.
In my spare time, I dabble in photography, bourbon tasting, deejaying, Netflix binges and host UNGENTRIFIED, a podcast on current events & topics related to the Black community.
